In some cases, olive oil drops can help with the flow and movement of ear wax however it may also have the opposite effect. The most effective way for olive oil treatment is to have your ears inspected by our Audiologist or your GP prior to starting any treatment.

We allow a 30 mins for the appointment. This includes the consultation, procedure itself and video otoscopy to show you the inside of your ear canals pre and post procedure. You are also entitled to a free follow up appointment if the Audiologist is unable to clear the wax in the first appointment.

The cost of the treatment is £50 for one ear or £80 for both. This includes the consultation, video otoscopy, the procedure itself and a free follow up appointment if required.

Signs that you may need Microsuction ear wax removal

– Hearing loss – If you have lost your hearing suddenly or is fluctuating, this is a sign that there may be excess wax or a foreign body inside your ear canal.
– Fullness / pressure inside the ear canals – This is the most common symptom when your ears are compacted with ear wax.
– Tinnitus – This can range from a high pitch whistling to a low humming noise in the background. This can occur over time or suddenly.
– Irritation / itchiness – Another very common symptom and is the reason why it is tempting to use a cotton bud which in most cases will push the wax further down the ear canal.

At Otec Hearing when you attend your Microsuction appointment we will first ask you some medical history questions regarding your ear health and the problems you are facing with your ears and hearing. After this we will use a video otoscope to obtain an image of the inside of your ear canals which is presented on a large screen in our clinic. Once we have determined if it only one or both ears which need treatment, we will begin the procedure.

 

A fine suction probe is inserted into the ear canal which will gently and safely remove the ear wax, this method is completely safe and clean with no mess as there is no water involved unlike the traditional ear syringing or irrigation. The Audiologist will be using a high-power microscope to look inside your ear canal whilst using the suction probe to remove the excessive ear wax. As there is no pain and discomfort the feedback, we get from all our clients is that they prefer this method over ear syringing. The full appointment will last roughly 30 mins after which you can carry on with your day.

Preparation for Microsuction ear wax removal

Microsuction ear wax removal uses a fine suction probe which is inserted into the ear canal and magnified using a high-power microscope to allow the Audiologist to safely remove all the ear wax. With his method you do not need to apply oil to your ears for weeks as if you were to have them syringed or irrigated at your GP surgery, in most cases you are able to have the procedure done with no preparation at all. If you have historically suffered with dry and hard ear wax it may be advisable to apply oil to the treatment ears at least 1-2 days prior to your appointment, this way the procedure will be more comfortable for you.

 

This means you can have the procedure done straight away without troubling yourself with the preparation with the oil application. This method has been tried and tested and has always resulted in a successful outcome.
