  1. Your audiologist will conduct a comprehensive consultation, inc. hearing test, audiogram, and personalised discussion about your hearing test and degree of any hearing loss, your lifestyle, your personal preferences, etc.
  2. The audiologist will then make some recommendations on which hearing aids suit your needs.
  3. Using your audiogram, the audiologist will programme your chosen hearing aid to your exact requirements and type of hearing loss.
  4. The audiologist will also demonstrate insertion and removal of your hearing aid, how to recharge the device and any maintenance and cleaning required.
  5. Once this is complete, the audiologist will discuss the lifelong aftercare we offer including unlimited appointments and wax removal discounts.

How do hearing aids work?

We understand that technology can sometimes be confusing and daunting. Our aim is to provide helpful advice on hearing aids to make things a little clearer. We provide the latest in technology including Wi-Fi and Rechargeable hearing aids. Our friendly advisers will recommend the most suitable solution for you based on your home visit assessment.

Hearing Aids will help to pick up all of the sounds around you, processing and releasing signals back into your ear. These small electronic devices can be worn in or behind the ear. They have 3 basic parts: a microphone, amplifier, and speaker. The hearing aid receives sound through a microphone. The device converts sound waves into electrical signals, sending them to an amplifier. The amplifier increases the power of the signals, sending them to the ear through a speaker. This gives you a rounded 360 degree listening experience customised just for you.

What do hearing aids do?

Very simply put, a hearing aid amplifies sound to help people with hearing loss hear the sounds around them. Today’s hearing aids are sophisticated devices that can amplify and clarify sounds you want to hear, like speech, without amplifying the background noise. Digital hearing aids can also be programmed to suit your individual hearing loss and listening situations to offer the best support.

Can I try on some hearing aids and see whether they help?

YES, we offer a 2-week FREE hearing aid trial this will give you some idea of how much hearing aids could help you and how it feels to wear them.

Are NHS hearing aids the same as private ones?

Some of the aids may be similar but the choice under the NHS is limited. In contrast, privately supplied aids often offer a much wider range of advanced technology and include the most invisible, discreet models to suit the individual wearer.

At Otec we offer free lifetime aftercare as part of your solution. Our lifetime aftercare programme enables us to ensure you’re getting the optimum benefit from your hearing solution. As your hearing changes we have the scientific knowledge and experience to fine tune your hearing aid to give you the best possible listening experience.
